TOURIST ATTRACTIONS



1. THE ALPINE REGION

LAKE BLED is the most famous lake in Slovenia. It's only about 2 km long and 1 km wide. On the middle of the lake there is the only natural island in our country. You can visit the island by a special boat - pletna.

TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK is the one of the oldest parks in Europe. It is a great place to hike in the summer. You can find seven small lakes there.

In Slovenia there are a lot of ski centres, but most of them are quite small. The most well know is KRANJSKA GORA. They have a Ski World Cup race for men every year there. In the summer, ski centres are full of people who enjoy hiking or mountain-biking.


* RIVER SOČA is a river in the west of Slovenia. Because it is so clean, it is a popular place for tourists in the summer.

* The SAVICA WATERFALL is the most famous and greatest waterfall in Slovenia. It was a great inspiration for our romantic poets.

* In VELIKA PLANINA farmers are still pasturing cows and other animals in the summer.


2. THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION

The saltern at SEČOVLJE are the biggest in Slovenia. People there produce salt in a traditional way. You can also visit the museum and learn all about the production of salt.

PORTOROŽ is a Slovenian summer paradise. It often called 'The City of Flowers'. You can find the most popular beaches of Slovenia there. In the summer it is full of young people who want to have fun. The old people also enjoy the swimming pools, food, live music and other things.

* PIRAN is a medieval seaport. It is one of the most romantic towns in Slovenia.

* The church of HOLY TRINITY at Hrastovlje is famous for its fresco called 'Dance of Death', which was painted in 1490.


3. THE DINARIC-KARST REGION

POSTOJNA CAVE is the longest and the most popular karst cave in Slovenia. It is special because of an animal that lives only there: a human fish (proteus). This is an amphibian that lives under water and has pale color.

LAKE CERKNICA is the biggest lake in Slovenia. In the rainy season it is full of water, but in the early spring it is completely dry.

* KOČEVSKI ROG is known as the Slovene jungle. It is very big and dense. A lot of endangered animals live there: bears, lynxes, wolves, wild cats.

* The river KOLPA is the hottest Slovenian river. Because it is also clean, it is very popular in the summer.
